Wingmasters
Picnic - 2009
by Mark Lane |
This
years Wingmasters Club picnic was a huge success! More than 80
people attended the day's activities making it one of the largest crowds
we have ever had. The day started with a fun-fly competition
featuring a "bomb-drop" contest. Contestants outfitted their
airplanes to remotely drop "bombs" that consisted of a large metal
washer with a ribbon attached. The goal was to land your bomb as
close as possible to the pump housing.
The
contestants would be ranked by how close they landed their bombs. There
were a total of 10 bombers and after two rounds of bombings, the
measurements were made and Tom Coughlin made the closest drop in his
first attempt. Everyone was a winner as there were enough prizes for
all contestants to pick a prize.
After
the fun fly, the food was served. The club provided sandwiches,
chips and water and many guests brought side dishes to augment the
feast. The food was plentiful and ranged from home-made salads to
yummy desserts. Many thanks to all people who contributed to the
potluck.
Throughout
the day free-flying was allowed and the crowd was dazzled by the many
different airplanes that buzzed the skies. After lunch, the club
sponsored a "Glider Launch" for the children. Each child was given
a balsa glider to put together. The group of kids gathered on the
runway and launched their planes. It was fun to see the kids chase
their gliders, tweak them, and launch them again. Hopefully these
will be the future pilots in the hobby of R/C airplanes.
A good time was had by all and the club would like to thank all who
participated and helped with the logistics. If you missed this
year's picnic, don't fret, we will do it again next October!
SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR
FRIENDS AT HiTEC, HOBBY TOWN, AND VALUE CRAFT FOR DONATING
PRIZES FOR THE COMPETITION. Please consider giving them
your business to help them in this time of economic downturn!
